About a week ago, right before the latest fictional (thankfully), predicted bad weather event, I realized I was running low on bird feed and kitten food for Bernie.
So, first, off I go to Home Depot. I am relatively strong from lifting feed for the horses but still usually engage in a wrestling match to load the bags of seed in the cart. If there are cameras in the outside area, I'm sure someone was thoroughly amused.
While checking out, a young man (thank goodness for commas) who works there said he would load my purchases in my car. I told him thank you, but I would be alright -- I was really thinking where were you when I was wrestling these things into my cart. But, he insisted so out we went.
As we were approaching my car, I hear horns blowing and wonder what is going on. Well, what was going on was someone desperately needed something from Home Depot and wasn't going to let a little thing like two people and a cart get in their way.
The truck clipped the young man helping me first and then of course me. So, down we both go, people, jumping out of cars to see if we are alright. Thankfully, other than being a little stunned (and would later discover I was quite bruised and stiff in parts I didn't know I had) we were otherwise okay.
No good deed. 🙄 Anyway, next stop the pet store. Upon checking out, a lady much older than me said she would carry my things to my car. I'm thinking wow! I must look pretty bad today.
Anyway, I enjoy feeding the birds and quite a few squirrels.
Squirrels are very welcome at my house -- no squirrel thwarting devices here!
And while I don't get cardinals in the numbers Cindy does, I do get quite a few. I have no pictures of the real thing but I recently finished -- Little Red Bird by The Little Stitcher.
And here is Bernie, totally unaware that I risked life and limb to ensure his belly remains full so that he has the energy to do naughty kitten things like try to climb the curtains.
I might add that this wasn't my first adventure at Home Depot -- but it will most assuredly be my last because I won't be shopping there anymore.
Back in the summer I was there looking at flowers when I found myself in the middle of a shoplifting event. Aside from the broken flowers I was shoved into, there were no other injuries -- just stunned that people really do those types of things.
I would like to take a minute and thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind thoughts and prayers. Things have leveled off a bit for now, and we are all just taking one day at a time -- trying to live in the present moment.
Until next time, may you all have only good adventures!
Take care ~

Color
First, I want to thank everyone (no-reply bloggers -- Cindy, Tracy H, and Pauline) for all of the kind words and thoughts on my last post. I still feel a little uncomfortable that I shared what I did, but I can't tell you all how much it means that you took time to respond. You have all been so kind! Some of you have been through the same things, and my heart breaks for you. Thankfully, you also spoke about being in a better place now. We are slowly getting into a better place, and I'm going to enjoy every moment of it.
My son's sense of humor seems to be returning. He asked me the other day if any packages had arrived and I told him just a couple of books I ordered.
He said Little Fires Everywhere -- that sounds like your life right now. It gave us a good laugh which is always a welcome thing -- right?
I pretty much love all colors (except cat vomit brown). I'm working on a couple of blankets and the colors I've been using make me happy, they cheer me and make me feel warm.
The first one is a v-stitch blanket from HanJan Crochet. Just random colors from yarn I've had forever. By the way, yarn and wicker don't necessarily get along.
The second blanket I'm working on is from Lucy at Attic 24. She is having a CAL for the Woodland Blanket. I must be back to jumping on bandwagons.
This tiny little bit is part one finished. Again, these colors make me happy.
I hope you all are finding things that cheer you and make you warm -- because these temperatures -- wow! Until next time, take care!

sometimes the wheels on the bus don't go round and round
Sometimes they just fall right off all at once.
Here is a passage from a book I recently read.
"Parent time is like fairy time but real. It is magic without pixie dust and spells. It defies physics without bending the laws of time and space. It is that truism everyone offers but no one believes until after they have children that time will actually speed, fleet enough to leave you jet-lagged and whiplashed and racing all at once. Your tiny, perfect baby nestles in your arms his first afternoon home, and then ten months later, he's off to his senior year of high school. You give birth to twins so small and alike, they lie mirrored, each with a head in the palm of one hand while their toes reach only to the crooks of your elbows, but it's only a year before they start looking at colleges. It is so impossible yet so universally experienced that magic is the only explanation."
I loved this description.
I can remember looking into the faces of my children when they were newly home from the hospital. All of the hopes and dreams I had for them. You want them to be happy in life -- of course, you know that life isn't one big basket of happy -- life can be challenging, sad, etc. -- but you want them to grab every bit of happy they can.
Well, the wheels began falling off several weeks before Christmas, and life got very challenging and very sad for my children. I'm sure for those of you who are parents; you know that when your child is hurting, you are hurting. And both of mine are hurting right now. We are dealing with depression that has hit rock bottom and brings me to a word I can't even write here, and a completely unexpected, out of the blue event for my daughter. We are all just feeling a little stunned and overwhelmed right now.
I don't like to get too personal on my blog, (I guess I couldn't have gotten more personal) and I have gone back over this post and changed it quite a few times, but I would sincerely appreciate any prayers, positive thoughts, energy -- you could send our way.
Thankfully, time doesn't stand still, and I know we will eventually see our way past this difficult period. Right now for me, it is putting one foot in front of the other and a smile on my face and finding time each day to escape a little into the things I love. I finished stitching this small ornament from Blackbird Designs right before Christmas.
I promise to be a little more cheery next time. Until then I know blogging friends aren't real life friends, but your visits to my blog and your comments and emails and little glimpses into your lives make life happier, and I thank all of you.
We are experiencing the so-called "bomb cyclone" today as I'm sure a lot of you are. I'm so over this winter already, and we are only at the beginning of January.
Until next time stay warm and safe and take care.
