Finishes/Beach Day

I think back to the beginning of the summer and in retrospect that ambitious list we made of things we wanted to do this summer.
Then things happened. First...the weather. Wow, it has been tropical here, and the mosquitoes are no joke! I don't remember July and  August disappeared in the blink of an eye. For most of the month, vertigo = a lot of bed time. And my father who has become less and less mobile had a fall. Many hours spent at my parents' house where there is no internet. You are in the middle of all of this acreage looking for a spot where you can get a fleeting signal.

I have finished a few things, though.

Rosewater by Janina Kallio

With Thy Needle & Thread's June Word Play - June's Door Bells

A small Lizzie Kate piece - Be Silly

And more recently the 1861 Antique Sampler from the In Friendship's Way book

I liked the colors Nan Lewis of Threadwork Primitives shared on Facebook - Onyx, DMC 869, Toasted Barley, Gingersnap, (my change) Camouflage, Baked Apple, and Tin Bucket. I wish I could photograph a true representation of the colors - oh well.

I was doing a pretty good job of being a one at a time stitcher, but lately, I've had a problem sticking with one thing. I think I may start Mermaid Fraktur by Plum Street Samplers

This summer has been a little stressful, so it was good to steal a bit of time and go the beach for the day. There is something so peaceful about the crashing waves and the sounds of the seagulls. I could easily live at the beach.

Love the mermaid

and the flowers

Me in the distance

It was a somewhat hazy day, but you can still see Atlantic City

We certainly got our steps in for the day - not sure who set a goal of 4000 steps lol???

I'm hoping to be home a little more and looking forward to visiting and commenting on blogs once again. I appreciate those of you who stick with me as blogging seems to be falling out of favor. And I apologize to those of you whose emails went unanswered. That is most inexcusable, and I hope you will forgive me. Also, do you know if you are a no-reply blogger? Sometimes when I try and respond to a comment I discover a no-reply blogger - just wondering.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

P.S. Am I the only one sad about the end of summer despite the somewhat extreme heat?

Hello, Penny! What a lovely post. It was great to see your stitching and knitting (beautiful shawl btw). Nice to see your summer photos too.

I love Fall so I am not sorry to see summer go, even though we had a nicer summer this year than last.

What a beautiful shawl! The color is scrumptious. Your stitch finishes are also wonderful!
I am not at all sad to see summer go. It has been miserably hot and I live the cooler temps! Have a great weekend!

I LOVE that shawl!! Such cute finishes Penny. NOPE! I am happy to see summer go, as cooler weather means I can finally get outside without my head exploding!!! I am sad to see more and more friends disappear from blogging.

Lots of nice finishes. The beach photos look so inviting. Nice getaway to recharge. I'm always sorry to see summer go. It gets dark so much earlier now. No fun!

Take care and enjoy the weekend!

love all your stitching finishes -- so glad you got to go to the beach for a break too. So sorry you've had a tough time. I hate vertigo so much! Am always afraid it will strike again. Sorry about your father too. Hope he's better now.

A fabulous shawl, that is so beautiful.
Loved seeing your beach adventure (i'm off to the coast for a few days next week - cant wait)
There have been lots of nasty bugs about this summer, I have been bitten a couple of times and have had to have some really awful meds to deal with it, the immune system just couldn't cope.
love and {hugs} x

what a lovely catchup! and a big shout out for the finished shawl - it's gorgeous (all of your projects are, of course, but I have personal experience with Rosewater so it gets special mention :-) I'm amazed how much you get done in spite of the vertigo. Hopefully the cooler temperatures of fall will help? I don't have vertigo, but I know I'll feel more like myself once it cools off) Happy September! (p.s. the "no-comment" thing drives me crazy, too!)

Oh, you got so many lovely things done, Penny, in spite of a busy and not-so-healthy summer. I'm so sorry about the vertigo... I just suffered one spell of it (that put me in the hospital) and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Ugh!!

I just love your shawl and seeing things like that makes me wish I knew how to knit. The June Wordplay is adorable--I have done three of four of them, but must stitch the rest!

Glad you got away for some needed R&R! I do hope things get a bit easier for you from now on. I know it must be exhausting caring for your dad--hang in there!

Enjoy your last week of September!

You seem to have been so very busy this summer, Penny. So it's nice to see that you could get some crafting time in in spite of the vertigo you had to deal with. That shawl looks gorgeous. And there stitchy projects finished, congratulations.
Great pictures from your day at the beach.

I loved your post! Great pictures and the June word play piece is awesome!

I am going to miss Summer, too. It is my favorite time of year. Fall is nice, but I'm always sad in the fall as I know Winter is close on it's heels! :-)

I'm so sorry you had vertigo to deal with. It is horrible. I hope your Dad is doing better.

Your shawl is beautiful. Love the colour. Your stitching finishes are gorgeous.

I'm so glad you got some time at the beach. I live by the sea but when we went to Scotland last month it was so nice to see the coastline up there as it is so different.
